HORS D'OEUVRES  AND CHAMPAGNE will be served after the concert.

Alon Goldstein, a Tannery favorite who has won international acclaim for his extraordinary pianism, will be joined by the legendary Fine Arts Quartet and double-bassist Alexander Bickard. They will perform Mozart's 23rd (in A major, K. 488) and 24th (in C minor, K. 491) piano concerti in brilliant arrangements for string quintet by Ignaz Lachner, a contemporary of Schubert. These two concerti are widely considered to be among the greatest piano concerti ever written; Beethoven said to a colleague of the 24th (one of only two that Mozart wrote in a minor key) that "we shall never be able to do anything like that."

Few, if any, contemporary lovers of Mozart have heard these concerti performed as they will be performed at the Tannery. In an age without streaming music services, Lachner sought to make these masterpieces more accessible to the music-loving public.
